We went to watch the Gurston Down Hill Climb competition on the May Bank Holiday weekend - very fast cars on a very thin ribbon of tarmac. They were reaching 138 miles per hour a few hundred metres after the start line, and getting quicker as the day progressed. Cars worth a special mention were the 700 BHP Puma bodied racer, the historic Cooper and Lotus 22, and the various finalists that became airborn within 20 meters after accelerating out of the very tight hairpin at Carousel. Best time for the day was 26.02 seconds.
